EIV Helps Moppet Foods Launch Operational Biodigester, Cutting Emissions Across Its Lagos Factory

ABUJA, NIGERIA — September 21, 2026 — EHA Impact Ventures (EIV), a gender-lens impact investment firm under the EHA Group, announced that portfolio company Moppet Foods has successfully commenced using a modular biogas digester purchased on its behalf by co-investor MotherFood International, following the "Waste to Biogas: Powering Nutrition in Nigeria" fundraising campaign that EIV led on the company's behalf late last year. Funds raised through the campaign are being directed to Moppet Foods to support logistics for the purchase. The system converts organic factory waste into clean, affordable energy and biofertilizer, marking a major step in Moppet Foods' climate resilience and a new model for how Nigerian food manufacturers can turn waste into value.

The purchase follows EIV and MotherFood International's earlier $80,000 co-investment in Moppet Foods, a female-led nutritious baby food company, which supported its move into a new factory and expanded production capacity. That growth brought a new challenge: rising production waste at a facility that relied on costly LPG for energy. Rather than treat the waste as a cost, EIV and MotherFood International set out to support Moppet Foods' plan to convert it into an asset, and with the biodigester now in place and operational, that vision has become a reality.

The modular biodigester is designed to process up to 73 tons of factory waste annually, replacing LPG use, cutting an estimated 171 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, and lowering Moppet Foods' operational costs by approximately 15%, savings the company expects will help keep its products affordable for families. The system will also generate 62 tons of biofertilizer annually, supporting more than 50 smallholder farmers who currently lack access to affordable fertilizer.

"At EIV, our objective is to give founders the capital and support they need to scale their businesses and deliver measurable impact for the communities they serve. Our fundraising support is a clear example of that in practice. We're grateful to partners like MotherFood International for stepping in to purchase the biodigester alongside our earlier investment in Moppet Foods," said Evelyn Castle, CEO and Co-Founder of EHA Impact Ventures.

Beyond Moppet Foods' own operations, the initiative points to a broader opportunity for Lagos State, which faces a persistent sanitation challenge, particularly during the rainy season, when organic waste litters drainage systems and contributes to flooding across the city. Moppet Foods now plans to expand the waste-to-energy model to convert organic waste from surrounding homes, factories, and communities into clean energy, positioning the completed project as a proof of concept for both business resilience and environmental impact across Lagos.

The biodigester project was developed in partnership with MotherFood International, making Moppet Foods one of Nigeria's first women-led food processing facilities to run on waste-powered energy.

"We are deeply thankful to have organizations that believe in progress and stand with us in our mission," said Roberta Edu, CEO of Moppet Foods. "Together, we are working to ensure Moppet Foods achieves its dream of reducing child malnutrition by 40% in our target communities by 2027."

With the biodigester now operational, Moppet Foods, MotherFood International and EIV point to the project as evidence of what circular, women-led food systems can achieve; creating green jobs, cutting emissions, and strengthening the supply chain that families and farmers depend on.
